NATE Certification
The Advantage of NATE Certification
Homeowners having work done on their homes want contractors with knowledgeable, qualified technicians. Technician certification by NATE (North American Technician Excellence) assures homeowners that technicians have passed a rigorous test of industry knowledge to earn certification.
To become certified, technicians must pass both a core and a specialty exam. Certification lasts for five years, after which a technician must re-certify. The tests are challenging; however, for candidates who take a class or review course, the passing rates are 80%-92%. The NATE test was developed and validated using a survey and with the input of the entire industry--those who pass can prove they know heating and cooling. Over 25,000 NATE certifications have been issued. NATE's Consumer Contractor Connection helps consumers identify contractors employing NATE-certified technicians.
